I am an
author. I'm thrilled to announce that my novel, SEA, the story of a
California teenager's life-changing adventure at a post-tsunami orphanage,
recently sold to G.P. Putnam's Sons (Penguin Young Readers Group.) SEA
will debut in hardcover most-likely summer 2009. I'm represented by
the fabulous Sara Crowe at Harvey Klinger Literary Agency.
I earned
a Masters in Fine Arts in Writing for Children from The New School in
New York City in 2001 and a Bachelors degree in Literature/Creative
Writing in 1994. UC Santa Cruz press published my young adult short
story, “Dear Mr. Moon,” in 1994 after winning an award for
best short story. While living in New York, I created a memoir based
on true love stories from elderly people titled, When They Talk About
Love, Stories from a Nursing Home, which received high praises in the
local press. Since 1994, my numerous theatrical plays for young people—
both adapted and original—were produced in Northern California
and New York. I’ve taught creative writing classes in Northern
California and was a guest lecturer at Santa Clara University in a children’s
literature class. I'm a member SCBWI.
Though
SEA is a work of fiction, my physician husband did volunteer his time
at an Indonesian pesantren working with children orphaned by the tsunami.
